When you think about your wedding day, it’s easy to dive headfirst into the aesthetics, Pinterest boards filled with floral arches, designer dresses, table settings, and colour palettes.

But here’s a thought: what if you planned your day around how you want to feel, not just how you want it to look?

Because long after the flowers have wilted and the dress has been packed away, what really lingers are the feelings. The joy. The calm. The connection. The presence.

At Film My Wedding, we believe that the best weddings are the ones where the feeling vision is just as intentional as the aesthetic. Here’s how to start thinking that way.

Start With Your Feeling Vision

Before locking in vendors or styling choices, ask yourself:

How do I want to feel at different parts of the day?

Morning, ceremony, photo session, reception, it’s all part of the emotional journey.

Maybe you want to feel peaceful in the morning, connected and grounded during the ceremony, fun and carefree on the dance-floor. Once you’re clear on that, you can design your day to honour those emotions.

Ask Yourself These 5 Key Questions:

  1. Do I want to feel relaxed or stressed in the morning?

If it’s relaxed, maybe don’t jam-pack your schedule or invite too many people to the prep space. Create a calm bubble for yourself. Obviously if you're having cultural aspects in the morning, then it's all about the party and the approach is different.

  2. Can I control everything on the day?

(Spoiler: No.) Trust your planning. If something goes off track, try to fix it, but don’t let it hijack your joy. Let go, and lean into the moment.

  3. Have I considered the energy of the people around me?

If your goal is presence and ease, avoid hiring vendors who bring tension. Two anxious photographers might capture pretty photos but could disrupt your vibe.

  4. Will I still feel good after standing for 45 minutes in heels at the ceremony?

Comfort = presence. Think about how your outfit choices will feel in real-time.

  5. What’s the plan if something goes wrong?

Have backup plans in place, rain, delays, no-shows. Pre-decide what matters and what you’re happy to let go of.

The Day Is About You (And Your Inner Circle)

This is your day. Yours and your partner’s. A celebration with the people who matter most.

Sometimes vendors forget this. They might turn your wedding into their personal branding shoot. That’s not how we work. We always ask:

    “What’s your feeling vision?”

Because we’re here to support that, not steal the spotlight.

Make sure every vendor you hire gets this too. Ask how they approach the day. Do they adapt to your energy, or force their own?

Relive the Feeling. Not Just the Footage.

We often hear from couples that what they remember most is how they felt, not the exact shade of the napkins or the positioning of the florals.

That’s why your wedding video should bring you back to the feeling. The goosebumps during vows. The laughter during speeches. The warmth of your partner’s hand in yours. That’s the kind of memory we capture for you, so you can relive your day over and over again.

    Final Thought

The aesthetics are important. But the feelings? They’re everything.

At Film My Wedding, we film more than just the visuals, we capture the experience. So when you watch your video years from now, you’ll feel everything you felt that day, all over again. As wedding videographers in Melbourne, the past 15 years have taught us a alot in what our couples truly cherish, and it's been a pleasure to share these thoughts with you :)
